Lack of practical training severely affects the employability of AMEs.

Role of an AME
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) ensures the airworthiness of an aircraft, whether it is a fixed-wing airplane or a helicopter. They identify problems and repair and overhaul aircraft structural, mechanical, and electrical systems. An Ame is personnel who is responsible for the release of an aircraft or a component after maintenance. Ame’s ensures that at any time in its operating life, the aircraft complies with the airworthiness requirements in force and is in a condition for safe operation.
Ame does overhaul, repair, inspection, replacement, modification or defect rectification of an aircraft or component, with the exception of pre-flight inspection. In other words, The technical responsibility of any aircraft is in the hands of the AME. Before every flight, the AME conducts a thorough inspection of the aircraft and issues a certificate that the aircraft is ready to take off. He has a complete technical team for this work. No aircraft can fly without AME’s certificate of fitness. It is worth noting that about 15-20 engineers work behind an airplane. From this their need can be estimated.
How To Become an AME
To become an aircraft maintenance engineer, one has to take a license. This license is granted by the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Any institute, which offers related courses, has to take permission for this from the DGCA working under the Ministry of Aviation, Government of India.
